The Role Providers Can Play as Anchor Institutions
As healthcare leaders continue to recognize the impact of social determinants on a person’s health, health systems have embraced their role as anchor institutions, working to improve the physical, social, and economic environments in their regions.
Anchor institutions are enterprises, such as universities and hospitals, that are rooted in their local communities by mission, invested capital or relationships to customers, employees and vendors. Healthcare leadership plays a major role in improving health outcomes for disadvantaged populations and leveraging the economic, social, and political power of the health care industry. This presentation, featuring C-suite healthcare leadership, will discuss actions that organizations can take to improve health equity in their communities as anchor institutions.
